June!

Bernadette

June already! It definitely feels like summer here in Texas! Each day we wake up early and go out to play in the pools and sprinklers. After a little dry off (shake it off) the pups have breakfast. Then a long nap that’s followed by training and grooming – lots of cuddles and pets and maybe a nice movie that will catch a certain pup (or more) interest. By then it’s time for more outdoor play which always includes water during the hottest season of the year. After dinner we settle in for the night and typically split who hangs out where depending on what each family member is into that evening. Our dogs are raised completely underfoot and in our home and hearts. We use crate training for our babies before they go to their new homes but the dogs that live in our home do not utilize crates once they are older. It’s what works for our family but we do highly recommend crate training for pups.

On the subject of crates we do believe that creating a safe space for your best friend is a great way to raise your floofy friend. When Calliope was young each night she would go to our door and wait to be let in and then go straight into her crate for the night. A little personal den is the perfect place for your puppy to get the rest and relaxation time they need. Just keep in mind a crate is not a place to “store” your puppy or a place to send them to when they’ve misbehaved. You want your puppies crate to be a positive area! There is an entire section devoted to crate training that is offered in the training program Baxter & Bella which we highly recommend to all our puppy parents. You can use code PASATIEMPORANCH for 25% off the lifetime membership.

Young Calliope when she needed that nightly reprieve and would wait each evening to sleep in her crate!

We hope your month will be fabulous! We plan to post lots of updates and pictures so please be sure to check back often! Xoxo

Two Weeks!

Our Aussiedoodle litter turned two weeks old yesterday! Already! Time flies when you are on puppy and mama watch 24/7 working in shifts. The puppies are each starting to open their eyes. They are also really on the move – we’ve already had to add the gate to block them from climbing out of their whelping box. By the end of this week we will introduce them to a potty tray. And then it will be time for puppy mush!

We’ve named this litter “The Land Down Under” in honor of their Australian Shepard Mama and famous people from Australia. This week we will posting individual pictures to help you to start getting to know your new puppy! We do still have availability in this litter so please contact us if you’d like to reserve one of these gorgeous bebes!

“The Land Down Under” * Two weeks*

In other news we have a handful of other girls in heat right now! It’s a very busy time at Pasatiempo Ranch and this summer will be filled with plenty of puppy snuggles and lots of cleanup. lol We are skipping a handful of breedings for a few girls this year who are not quite ready for motherhood but who will get plenty of supervised puppy play and interaction once the litters are big enough to interact with their “aunts and uncles”. It’s important for us and our reproductive vet to evaluate our dogs and be sure they are not only mature enough physically but also psychologically not only to ensure the best start for their puppies but also to protect the well being of our future mamas. Also since we are a small family breeder we want to limit the amount of puppies we have on the ground at any time so we can be sure to give each mama and litter the full attention they deserve!

Our Riverdale litter from July 2021 are almost a year old and we love seeing their sweet faces on social media and in updates thru texts and emails. We are always appreciative of our puppy families who stay in touch.

Riverdale Litter

We spend a lot of time on grooming and highly recommend a good summer cut for the hot months ahead. Our dogs are happier and cooler with a great and easy cut – it allows them to play in the water and be easy and breezy without tons of upcoming grooming headaches. We like to keep the body at a reasonable length and the head on the shaggy side. The more playful the pup the shorter the cut!

F1 Aussiedoodle Puppies

The puppies turn one week old today! We spend the first week making sure Mama is doing well with lots of special meals and pets and daily checks on her well being to ensure she’s getting everything she requires to take the best care of her puppies.

Puppy handling the first ten days is extremely minimal. We weigh them daily and begin ENI (early neurological stimulation exercises as well as early scent introduction on day 4. We are obviously always thrilled when everyone is having healthy daily gains yet always prepared in case anyone needs extra help. Happily this litter is thriving.

Their little eyes are starting to open and in about a week we will add a potty tray into their space which will encourage them to begin their potty learning. Right now the puppies sleep and eat and that is what we want.

This litter of puppies have beautiful shiny fur with gorgeous markings. If you are interested in a puppy from Alfie & Bindi please contact us to be placed on the list. We share daily pictures and videos on our social media page.

Have a fabulous weekend! Xoxo

No April Fools; Just Fluff

The Puppy Room

Happy April! This year is flying by at Pasatiempo Ranch! March was a busy month for us! We installed turf in the remainder area of our dog yard which is amazing because rain will no longer have an impact on our furniture and floors indoors! We already had half their area turfed but with this addition we no longer have muddy paws and dirty pups who need rinsed down prior to coming in and out during the rainy season. This also allows us to have daily water time with kiddie pools, sprinklers and splash pads on warm days! You know what we always say – a tired dog is a good dog!

Later this month we will find out if the honeymoon between Alfie and Bindi was successful! Cross your paws for fluffy doodles!

If you follow our social media I’m sure you see lots of pictures in our puppy room. This is a spot for our fluffers that is open to our kitchen and dining area. We have it decorated with vintage pieces and plants. It’s important for our dogs to be family members in every sense of the word. Our dogs are not kenneled or living separately from us. That may work for some breeders but our passion are the dogs and having them beside us and underfoot is what makes this life so fun (and sometimes challenging). The most important aspect of this room is that it is open to the entire family and it contains lots of toys! You must know how important safe stuffed animals and chew toys are in your dogs world. This is a place where the dogs relax and where they receive their daily one on one training.

We hope your year is moving along happily and that your upcoming holiday is filled with lots of love and family.

Spring is Coming

Penelope F1 Irishdoodle

Well it’s starting to look like spring here and we are so happy about it! Our puppy area looks so much prettier when the tree have leaves and the flowers are blooming. The weather right now is perfect for the dogs to really have fun outside and we are almost to the splash pad and baby pool weather that we love!

We are so excited that one of our girls is experiencing her second heat and has been cleared for her first litter! That means we will have a bundle of Aussiedoodle puppies in late spring as long as Mother Nature sees fit! Paws crossed. If this is a litter you would like to have your name on please contact us to be added to our list! These puppies will grow to be medium to standard sized.

This blogpost picture features our girl Penelope who is an F1 Irishdoodle. She is a beautiful blonde girl with big inquisitive eyes and always has a happy smile. She loves to cuddle with us on the couch on the evenings and she enjoys doing tricks like standing on her back legs for treats. She is also an amazing jumper and can easily clear a 4 foot hurdle.

We hope you are having a great 2022 so far! Sending lots of love and sloppy kisses your way! Thank you for your interest in Pasatiempo Ranch!

February 2022 Already

Frances & Winnie

Genetics are a fascinating subject and we love learning more as the science adapts and more information becomes available. Our two girls Frances & Winnie are full siblings from two different litters. By a glance you can see they are both doodles but one obviously has a curly coat (like Dad) and the the other a wavy coat (like Mom). You can see that their colors are completely opposite on the scale of apricot which is what they are both considered color wise. Also Frances has dark eyes and a black nose while Winnie has amber eyes and a brown nose. The possibilities of color from a litter from their parents (Alfie & Calliope) are cream to apricot as well as parti puppies (puppies with spots) and since they both carry “b” it means any of the puppies can have light eyes and brown noses. Again – the science is so interesting. When we decide to breed two dogs together we absolutely know the percentage outcome of what the litter will create. The surprise is how many of each but it’s never a shock to see specific colors or traits.

Happy 2022!

Happy New Year! We’ve had a great holiday season and we are so happy to start a fresh new year! Last year was a busy year at Pasatiempo Ranch and this year will be the same way! When you have dogs it should be a constant training and treating with a side of learning for everyone kind of life! This year we are determined to begin agility learning for all the dogs as well as a few cool tricks for us and the older pups.

Our dogs are raised right here in our home. They have daily one on one training as well as group training. They take turns being walked and go on adventures with us individually throughout the week. It’s important to remember that even the smallest change – such as going into the front yard versus the back – has huge benefits such as new sights and smells for your dogs and that will excite them and TIRE them out! We all know a tired dog is a good dog. At night after a long day of play there is nothing we love more than cuddling on the sofa or playing hot lava over fluffy beings as we make our way to the fridge for snacks.

Our Penelope girl came into heat as this new year snuck in so we are excited for that. We will not breed her yet as she is still growing and has more maturing to do but one day she will make a wonderful mom. She loves puppies and has an amazing nurturing personality. It is absolutely her best quality how she takes to all of the younger pups.

We hope your 2022 is going to be filled with lots of sloppy kisses and good times.

Our Newest Pasatiempo Ranch Resident

Our newest resident Swayze came to us from Arkansas last week. He’s the most beautiful standard poodle. He has amber eyes and a liver nose. His demeanor so far is just perfect; he hasn’t had an accident since coming home over a week ago. He loves the other dogs and the kitties and has fit right into our happy family. He seems to be the typical poodle who loves to be next to his humans to be his happiest self.

He is a hopeful future Dad for our program and will produce F1bb Goldendoodle pups with liver noses and light eyes like himself and a basically non existent chance of shedding. This will create an entire line of pups who are the perfect candidates for people with allergies. We are excited about the future and can’t wait to see him grow!

We just finished up heats (with no breedings) for three of our girls and are ready to celebrate the howlidays together. The pups have been enjoying the cooler weather and we’ve been working on lots of new tricks and interesting lessons for them lately.

Sending lots of hugs and sloppy wet kisses to all of our Pasatiempo Ranch puppies and families this holiday season.

Xoxo

Latest Update!

Betty Sue ~ F1 Sheepadoodle

As the merry season approaches we’ve got our home decorated for the holidays and we are so proud of all our fluffy friends because none of them have really bothered with our decor. I’ve added a little at a time starting with the tree and then adding ornaments days later. We’ve put things on shelves little by little with the hopes that they don’t notice and so far so good! I’m not advocating putting out your great grandmothers treasures or using your prized glass ornaments but – we also have cats.

We have two girls in heat cycles currently. Our fingers our crossed that Mother Nature swings three of our other girls right now so we can have the hormonal rush simultaneously and move forward. We won’t be doing winter breedings as our weather is unpredictable in February. We can always count on a monsoon but last year we had snow which is extremely unusual. We wouldn’t want to plan puppies for a weather season that would affect our program and our ability to raise puppies in the best manner we know how. We have to be able to give our pack outdoor breaks without the worry of wet mamas coming back in and chilling pups or the added stress of bath & blow drying for the mom again and again after coming inside. We also love sending our puppies outside to play for a few hours per day once they are older so they learn about the sights and smells and sounds of the great outdoors which wouldn’t be possible during that time of the year.

By putting off a breeding season now it means that the second half of 2022 will mean plenty of puppies!!! If you would like to be added to our waitlist please fill out one of our applications or call us to chat about placement. We have several spots still available.

Xoxo,

Jenny & Dalton
