Puppy Curriculum: Laying the Foundation for a Lifetime of Excellence
We don’t just raise puppies. We architect calm, confident companions from their very first days of life.
Our puppies are raised on a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that focuses on early neurological stimulation, socialization, and emotional development. This advanced program helps our puppies become confident, resilient, and well-adjusted companions.
Key Components:
- From their very first days, our puppies experience a carefully curated sensory and neurological foundation that gently strengthens their nervous systems and emotional confidence. We use both Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI)
- Each puppy is introduced to human touch through intentional, nurturing handling that teaches their nervous system to relax, trust, and feel safe in human hands
- Our puppies grow up immersed in a rich, thoughtfully designed world of sounds, textures, scents, and experiences — so novelty feels exciting, not scary.
- Curriculum tailored to each puppy’s developmental benchmarks
- They’re raised as part of a real household ecosystem — comfortably navigating children, cats, dogs, and everyday life with calm curiosity and emotional ease
Our goal is to empower each puppy with a strong foundation of confidence and resilience, teaching them that the world is a safe and welcoming place. By investing in our puppies’ early development, we set them up for a lifetime of happiness, health, and success.
Potty Training: Setting Your Doodle Up for Success
We start potty training our doodles at 3 weeks old, and by 5-6 weeks, we transition to outdoor potty training (weather permitting). Our goal is to make the transition to your home as seamless as possible.
Remember, an 8-week-old puppy is still a baby, and potty training requires patience, consistency, and love. Be prepared to continue the training process, and don’t worry if accidents happen – it’s all part of the journey!
Crate Training for a Lifetime of Good Habits
We’re strong advocates for crate training, as it lays the foundation for a well-behaved pup. Our puppies start crate training at 5 1/2 weeks old, and by the time they join your family we hope they’ll associate their crate with a cozy, safe space for rest and sleep.
Keep in mind that crate training in a familiar environment with littermates and a pack is different from being in a new home. Be patient and allow your puppy time to adjust during the first few weeks – it’s a big change!
By making this transition smooth, you’ll set your puppy up for success and help them become a well-adjusted, crate-trained companion.
Grooming: A Crucial Part of Doodle Ownership
At Pasatiempo Ranch, we understand the importance of grooming in preparing our puppies for their future homes. From a few days old, we gently handle our puppies’ paws, mouths, ears, and faces to help them become comfortable with the grooming process.
One critical aspect of grooming is nail care. We trim our puppies’ nails as frequently as twice a week to prevent overgrowth, scratching Mama & littermates and to promote healthy habits.
As a potential doodle owner, it’s essential to consider the grooming requirements of these beautiful dogs. Doodle fur is not low maintenance, and regular grooming is necessary to prevent matting and tangling.
Our approach to grooming involves daily brushing for longer hair and weekly use of specialized tools, including a slicker brush and a wide-tooth metal comb which is imperative to line brushing. This regular routine not only keeps our dogs looking their best but also provides valuable one-on-one time, strengthening our bond with them. Another option is a shorter body cut with a longer head & tail which we often keep on our doodles!
If you’re considering bringing a doodle into your family, we want to ensure you’re aware of the grooming commitment involved. With the right care and attention, your doodle will thrive and become a beloved, loyal companion.
Additional Grooming Tips:
- Online resources: Utilize online videos that provide step-by-step instructions on grooming your doodle.
- Drying: After bathing, blow-dry your pup to prevent matting.
- Coat variation: Since doodles are crossbreeds, their coats can vary. Finding a skilled groomer early on is crucial for maintaining your dog’s coat.
- Matting prevention: Matting can be painful for your dog. Regular grooming and early acclimation to the process are vital to preventing matting.
- Early start: Introduce grooming early, making it a positive experience for your puppy. This will help them become comfortable with the process and make future grooming sessions easier.
