The Bakers Dozen

13 Irishdoodles

I just want to start this by saying we aren’t just raising puppies here at Pasatiempo Ranch. It’s 11:30 pm on Wednesday night and I am taking the first shift of Mama & Bebe watch for both our girls Calliope Jane & Penelope. These first few weeks after the babies are born are crucial for both mother/baby bonding but also sibling to sibling bonds. We handle the puppies minimally each day, moving them, shifting them around and guiding them to the milk bar when they need help. We take weights daily and oftentimes numerous times during the day to be sure they are gaining and don’t need human intervention. We begin ENI and ENS on day 3 of their lives. We are raising future family members for you and want them to be well rounded, easy to train and adaptable to your lifestyle but most importantly we want them to be loving so these first days are essential to their development.

Look at these gorgeous babies!

We are overwhelmingly excited to announce our first litter of F1b Irishdoodles! Penelope gave birth on Monday, February 20, 2023. Now I don’t know if you’ve followed along since Penny was a little pup but she’s a bit of an overachiever. She is an amazingly athletic girl who can jump through hoops and climb into the top bunk of the bed; yes that means she could be a firedog since she can climb ladders. There is no puzzle she cannot figure out. She recently started working with the talking buttons you see people using on social media to teach their dogs how to communicate. She’s already excelling. The thing Penelope is best at is loving living things. She has been a darling snuggle bug since the first night we brought her home when she was a few months old. She loves to cuddle on the couch with a human but she also loves cuddling with our cats and other pups. We call her the den mother of our pack because if any of our dogs are grumpy or having a down day she will always feel it in her soul and seek them out with this kind of massage thing only she does. She truly is one of a kind.

Look at that smile! Oh – and those little twins peeking out from their Mama

The babies started coming mid afternoon and by around 10pm we had thirteen little darlings! We have four little boys and nine baby girls. In true “Alfie is the father” form – if you’ve followed our program you’ll know babies from Alfie tend to be female heavy. These babies are an array of cream to red as we knew they would be from their parents’ genetic results. They are standard size and will be non shedding as they are F1b meaning their mother is an F1 Irishdoodle (Standard Poodle crossed with an Irish Setter) and their father is a Standard Poodle.

Our Moms are a priority here at Pasatiempo Ranch. You have to take a trip to the supermarket with us soon! We make tons of yummy food for our pregnant and nursing mothers in order to be sure they are thriving and in turn their puppies are healthy and growing. Fresh water is imperative because hydration is key but we also offer goats milk to our girls because it’s so high in fat and calories. Our mother dogs eat a high nutrient kibble which is always available to them as well as their daily vitamins. We feed high protein canned dog food as well as fresh food we prepare ourselves. We want our Mama dogs to eat as many calories as possible at this crucial time of development. You cannot overfeed a nursing dog! Our kitchen staff (us) are consistently making special puddings, raw meals and lots of different types of eggs to be certain they get the nutrition they need to thrive. Some Mama dogs can be super picky during this hormonal time so we do and try everything to make sure they eat enough even by spoon & hand feeding throughout the days and nights. We also do daily well checks on our Moms checking for signs of discomfort or issues and making sure they are getting the calcium they need along with massages and outdoor time with their designated best friends from our pack.

We are accepting reservations on this litter now. This litter has an appointment for their first set of vaccines on April 11th and will be microchipped prior to going to their furever home. We do puppy selections at 6 weeks and the go home date will begin the weekend of April 15th. We have a local flight nanny who flies our puppies in cabin to their destinations and we will also meet you halfway if you live within a certain mileage from us. We are always happy to deliver your puppy to your front door if you live locally or even semi locally! If you are ready for a puppy feel free to reach out to us about adding one of these sweet babies to your family.

Betty Sue has a Birthday!

Happy Three Years!

Happy birthday Betty Sue! Our F1Sheepadoodle Betty turned 3 last week and we had the cutest party and cake for her. The weather was in agreement so the pups all got to play in the sprinklers to celebrate with her. There’s nothing Betty loves better than water play and kisses. It was the perfect day.

Have your cake and eat it too!

Betty Sue is not your average pup. We’ve never had any of the issues some people say they do with a sheepdog cross. She doesn’t herd and she doesn’t nip. She is protective of her yard and birds or squirrels that might try to enter – the interesting thing about our sheepadoodle is she doesn’t bark to show the nature of what her breed is meant to do; she patrols around what she believes could be a threat and keeps an eagle eye on the surroundings. Nature is simply so fascinating isn’t it?

Since Betty Sue is three and because she’s such a phenomenal dog one might ask why she hasn’t been bred as part of our program yet. The answer to that is first Betty is considered a large breed dog. We wanted her to reach her full growth potential before having her carry a litter. Additionally we want to pair her with Swayze and we’ve been waiting for him to be a little older as well. We are crossing our fingers for a fall litter for Betty Sue and we are accepting reservations on that litter now. These puppies can be a variety of colors such as black and white, brown and white, brown and also black. Because of the pairing we have planned they can be both black and liver based meaning some will have brown noses and light eyes and others will have black noses with darker eyes. They will be F1b which basically alleviates any chance of shedding.

Baby Betty

As you can see from our pictures Betty has faded as we originally knew she would into a sprinkle of gray on her black and white coat. She is a gorgeous dog weighing in at 66 pounds of fabulous. Nobody sleeps upside down and takes up half a sofa or gives kisses like her. We look forward to chatting with you about future Sheepadoodles! Xoxo

New Year and New Ideas

Can you believe we are almost through the first month of 2023?! It’s 4:30 am and I’m writing a quick blogpost because I want to share some of the things we are doing currently in our home and as part of our program that are improving both our lives and the lives of our pets!

We have been extremely lucky this month with our weather which has allowed for a lot of outdoor playtime and training sessions. Personally I (Jenny) prefer quiet indoor sessions with the pups – typically individually but I do recognize that outside distractions are important while training also. We like to do daily training with the pack and each of us do things a bit differently which is good for working a dogs brain because change is tiring and a tired dog is a good dog. Because we have such a plethora of different personalities we do like to mix and match pups so that they learn to work in favor of their differences versus against them. For instance Bernadette our Saint is very good with commands because she is extremely treat and food motivated. I like to pair training with her with one of our more rambunctious (younger) doodles because peer pressure is where it’s at and once they see her get a consistent reward they will copy her technique so that they also get that reward.

Bernadette and Josephine

When people say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks that just simply isn’t true. Our oldest pup in the pack is always ready to learn and he has recently begun some new things like running on a leash – he has never cared for exercise but we think the other pups have motivated him to get up and get going – much like humans do in support style gyms. Again – we find peer pressure is really amazing for dogs.

Winnie – A Groomers Delight

This also works for things like grooming . Winnie is one of our goldendoodles who absolutely loves to be brushed and groomed. She would sit all day and let you comb and brush her out. By having a few others in the grooming area with her who are either very young or who don’t think grooming is a treat they see her and want to emulate her good behavior because they realize there are really high value treats to sitting on the grooming table for an extended period. High value here means licking peanut butter off a wooden spatula or fresh chicken bites that they wouldn’t ordinarily have.

If you have one dog who isn’t too motivated to do new things maybe we can help you with that?! There is always value in a friend for your pup and it might be a good time to add to your pack? We are expecting two litters for Valentine’s Day and these puppies will be spectacular little teddy bears. If you do not currently have a dog or you’ve never had one reach out to us and let us walk you through he steps of being a dog owner. There’s never been a better time to have a four legged friend! There are so many dog friendly stores and restaurants and dogs are the greatest motivator to get out and take walks and enjoy the sunshine and even rain. So many of our pawrents have made new human friends at the park and at pet establishments these past few years – common interests of the love of an animal is a great way to meet others. Plus we don’t want to leave out the most important part of a pup – all the snuggles and a non judgmental pal!

Frances & Ophelia are half sisters. They are a great pairing to train with any energetic pup because both are so laidback and easygoing! They also both like to wear clothes and bows.

We hope you enjoy your weekend. Thank you for stopping by Pasatiempo Ranch today! Xoxo

Doodles on the way!

We are expecting!

Penelope & Calliope Jane

F1b Goldendoodles are set to arrive in February 2023! This is a repeat breeding of Calliope Jane & Alfie Solomon’s. Expect shades of cream and apricot and always throwing a few partis! These pups will grow to be standard sized. We are accepting reservations on this litter now! These puppies will go home in early April – spring is the perfect time for puppy training!

We crossed our paws and fingers for our first litter of F1b Irishdoodles with a pairing of Penelope and Alfie Solomon and they are also expected in February 2023! This will be a beautiful litter with shades of cream to apricot. These pups will be standard to large sized. They will be ready to go home in April. We are accepting reservations now!

If you would like more information on either of these litters or our program here at Pasatiempo Ranch please contact us! ⬇️

We are so excited about February – it’s going to be the best Valentine’s Day ever! Xoxo

Happy Birthday Originals

Today we celebrate the second birthday of our Originals litter which was the best thing to come out of 2020! From that litter we held back two of our most favorite girls Eloise & Frances.

Originals Litter 2020

Eloise was a beautiful cream colored puppy with a liver nose and light eyes when she was tiny. She is now just a larger sixty pound version of that pup. She has a wavy coat and never sheds. She loves the sofa and cuddling and food. She is definitely a people dog.

Eloise

In complete contrast our gorgeous red girl Frances was the last of that litter born and was not breathing. We spent what seemed like forever trying any life saving measures we could to bring her body to life which finally happened – she is a true miracle baby. Frances is now a fifty pound sweetheart who kept her pretty red color; she has a non shedding coat which is curly like her dads. She looks adorable grown out or with a poodle cut. She loves kisses and hugs. We consider Franny our resident ear expert because she can often be found “grooming” the other dogs ears here at Pasatiempo Ranch. She’s very helpful!

Frances

We are very excited to announce our upcoming repeat litter of Alfie and Calliope Jane which will be born in February 2023! If you are hoping to add a sibling to your home or have always wanted a Alfie/Calliope combo now is your chance to get on our reservation list! They will be ready to go home mid April! Text us for more information: ⬇️

We hope if you have a pup from us you’ll check in from time to time or tag us on instagram! You know we love to see our babies as they progress and grow up.

Thank you for visiting our blog – have an amazing day! Xoxo

Holiday Season

This year flew by didn’t it? I can’t believe we’ve been so busy that we haven’t posted since September! Our sweet St Berdoodle litter went home months ago and the house has been feeling empty without a puppy litter on the ground. Not too empty of course – we have lots of big pups to keep us occupied! We do still have availability for F1 Aussiedoodles who are completely vetted, trained and ready for forever homes. Reach out for more information. Must love cuddles and snacks!!

2023 will be a fun year for us and we hope to bring lots of joy to families who are hoping to add a four legged member to their home. We will be expecting a repeat breeding of Calliope Jane & Alfie which results in gorgeous and intelligent F1b standard Goldendoodles. They vary in shades of cream and apricot and parti. We also expect our first litter of F1b Sheepadoodles & Irishdoodles. It’s an exciting time for our family as we have been waiting years and years for these puppies. These pairings will be phenomenal and the pups will of course be beautiful and fluffy! The temperaments of these pairings should produce pups suitable for therapy work. We are very excited!

It’s the season for lots of extra food, family and decorations – as you celebrate be sure to keep an extra watchful eye on your pups. Table scraps aren’t always the friend to your dog that we think they are and you’ll want to be extra watchful that those pretty ornaments don’t get eaten or destroyed. We like to add a few things at a time to be sure the fluffers aren’t extra interested in redecorating our trees!

Please feel free to reach out with questions or if you’d like more information on our upcoming litters in 2023. We are always available to chat about dogs!! Xoxo

What Puppies Need

We are so excited for you to choose your new puppy next weekend! Have you been keeping up with the puppies milestones and growth on our instagram? They change so much each day. We wanted to touch base with you and remind you it is never too early to start planning and purchasing must have items for your new baby!

We have compiled an Amazon list that includes our favorite things for any doodle owner.

Check out this page from Must Haves for Puppy Owners

https://www.amazon.com/shop/verychicbaby

These are things we use daily and love. Feel free to reach out with any questions regarding items and why we use them instead of another brand etc. We are always happy to share our experiences; both good and bad!

As far as the food we use we start our puppies on TLC Pet Food. It is sold exclusively online and is always delivered free. We have ours on autoship and UPS delivers each month to our doorstep! It’s so convenient. There are a plethora of reasons we feed our pregnant, nursing and puppies TLC and we are thrilled to chat with you about why we love it. Tummies get filled with a nutritious blend of concentrated meat proteins, ancient whole grains that are rich in Omegas 3&6. It’s a win win! If you decide to use a different brand of food please make sure it is NOT grain free and make the switchover slowly to avoid tummy upsets. Theres a $5 coupon off your first purchase if you use this link: https://tlcpetfood.com/nutrition/pasatiemporanch

Another item we use for our puppies everyday since before birth are NuVet supplements. All of our dogs use supplements in some shape or form. We are very pleased with how their skin and coats look as well as the way they have improved our older dogs quality of life. The best part about this brand of vitamins are that they are human grade and that is such a huge deal to us because our dogs are our life! Use our code 668809 for 15% off your order!

http://www.nuvet.com/668809

Lastly we want to address the subject of training. We are breeders and dog trainers and we highly recommend that you use a program of some sort from day one for your puppy. The best dog is a tired and trained dog. With proper training from the day you pick up your puppy your lives will be healthier and happier. We personally use Baxter & Bella for all our training. They offer Lifetime MEMBERS ONLY Access and membership never expires and provides you with unlimited use of everything they offer including individualized training. You can use the code PASATIEMPORANCH for 25% off membership. Check out their website and free information before you purchase to see what you think. We’ve tried a few online training companies and none have impressed us like this one!

https://www.baxterandbella.com

We know this is a lot of information for a Saturday morning but we hope it will inspire you to start researching all the best ways to welcome your newest fluffy family member home! Have a great weekend and please reach out with any questions you have!

St Berdoodle Puppies

The puppies are here! They turned one week yesterday and they are perfect! A few of them are already weighing over two pounds! We are so excited for this litter as we’ve been planning for it for years. We do have a few available spots left for a female puppy. They will be ready to go to their new homes at the end of September.

The parents of this litter are our Saint Bernard Bernadette and our Standard Poodle Alfie. They are first generation St Berdoodles. This is Bernadette’s first litter and she is the best mom just as we expected. This is Alfies fourth litter and he has amazing pups. The puppies he has fathered in the past are simply phenomenal. They are easily trained, intelligent, athletic and loyal. We are looking forward to watching how big these babies get. We expect their personalities to be a good mixture of calm and cool.

Please reach out if you’d like to chat about our program or reserve a puppy. Our puppy picks are at 6 weeks after their evaluations.
